Power
Generation With a long history of representing members of the power industry and
municipalities in power supply related matters, Gilberti Stinziano Heintz & Smith,
P.C. has done the environmental and regulatory legal work for power plants firing
a wide variety of fuels, have litigated a number of complicated air pollution
issues, and regularly appear before the environmental and energy regulatory agencies.
We have been counsel on power generation projects that total more than 5,000 megawatts of generating capacity, including some of more than 1,000 megawatts and several just below the 80 megawatt, Article X threshold. We represent about 12% of the installed generating capacity in New York State and have been involved with more than 450 miles of transmission line and other linear projects. Gilberti Stinziano Heintz & Smith, P.C. served as environmental counsel for the "greenfield" development of a 1050 megawatt (nominal) gas fired, steam-electric cogeneration plant. The project site consists of 260 acres of which 51 acres is scattered wetland, presenting a significant design and permitting challenge. The project uses more than 6 million gallons of water per day from Lake Ontario and has a waste water stream of approximately 1 million gallons per day. The project was reported at the time to be the second largest independently owned cogeneration plant in North America.
